Kudjoe Affutu

Coffin artist and sculptor (*1985)

Kudjoe Affutu was born 1985 in the Central Region in Ghana. As a 15-year-old he became an apprentice of Paa Joe in Nungua. In 2007 he left his master and started his own business in Awutu. After a hard time, he finally managed to became the most famous and innovative coffin artist and palanquin maker in the Central Region.

Regula Tschumi has worked with Kudjoe Affutu since she had met him for the first time in 2002 in Paa Joe’s workshop in Nungua. She later collaborated with him in numerous art projects and managed to include him in several important international art exhibitions. The last important collaboration was with the Kunsthalle Hamburg for the exhibition Mourning. On Loss and Change in 2020.

In October 2020 Kudjoe Affutu finished his new workshop in Awutu.
